Gucci Showing Twice Per Year
Gucci will have two fashion shoes per year, instead of five.
I'm really thrilled to learn that Gucci is going back to the good old days of Fashion. I don't know if you remember, but a few years back there used to be only two Fashion Shows a year, and therefore clothing brands would only produce two collections a year. However, with the rise of fast-fashion brands like Zara, H&M and Fashion Nova, we went from two to over 20 collections a year! Crazy isn't it?
Thankfully, and probably due to Covid_19, many renowned brands like Gucci are now taking the first steps to change the way they manufacture clothes, conduct fashion week, and deal with the long-established tradition of seasonality.
A few days ago Gucci announced that it was stepping away from the seasonal calendar for good, and will be cutting down from five to two shows a year. Alessandro Michele, Gucci creative director, wrote in a diary entry posted by the brand's Instagram account: "I will abandon the worn-out ritual of seasonalities and shows to regain a new cadence, closer to my expressive call - we will just meet twice a year to share the chapters of a new story."
Gucci creative director also took the time to reflect on the fashion industry's negative impact it has had on the enviroment.
"Our reckless actions have burned the house we live in. We conceived of ourselves as separated from nature, we felt cunning and almighty. We usurped nature, we dominated and wounded it. We incited Prometheus, and buried Pan. So much haughtiness made us lose our sisterhood with the butterflies, the flowers, the trees and the roots. So much outrageous greed made us lose the harmony and the care, the connection and the belonging."
This is not the first time Gucci makes a move towards a more sustainable way of producing clothes. Back in 2017, they announced the brand would go fur-free.
These small steps Gucci and other renowned brands are taking towards Sustainable Fashion are of great importance. For one, they are raising awareness about the negative impact Fast Fashion has had on the earth. Two, their actions will hopefully persuade other brands to do the same. And third, there is hope that we will leave a better world for our children and younger generations.
